I recently looked on Facebook and saw a post from 4-time Olympian Ruben Gonzalez, a new friend of mine who I had the blessing of sharing the stage with at a Sales Congress event in Singapore. In this blog post was a picture of quote from Jim Rohn about what I believe is our opportunity.
The quote was “Formal education will make you a living, self education will make you a fortune” Jim Rohn.
What do you think about when you read this quote??
What I think about is all the research and the studies that have been done that state that it takes 10,000 hours in a given field in order to become an expert. And oftentimes these 10,000 hours are spent after you’ve received your degree. So what are you currently doing for yourself to become the best that you can be? Have you just settled that your formal education is enough? Or have you mapped out a plan for your 10,000 hours in your given field so that you can be the best that you can be.
Read great books! I’ve heard from so many mentors of mine that the things that build you up and give you strength are the people that you surround yourself with and the books you read. So isn’t that what it speaks to, that self education will make you a fortune when you are willing continue to learn every single day? One of my mentors, Jon Gordon, always says, “commit to being a lifelong learner.” Don’t give up on yourself. Feed your mind. Choose to be positive. We face so many daily obstacles in the fight of life that when we are constantly learning and trying to get better, it offsets the obstacles that we face and gives us the ability to get off that mat of life so much quicker.
So check in with yourself. Where are you? Have you always settled at that formal education is enough, or are you currently on a path to greatness in order to have a massive impact? When I think of that word fortune it’s not just wealth. It’s the fortune of the blessings that you can have by having a significant impact on other people’s lives. I like to call it immeasurable impact. Just serving others to the point that others start to serve others and you may not even know that your messages are being shared a making an even bigger difference. That to me is an incredible fortune. That happens through self education, willingness to achieve and desire to make a difference.
So once again, where are you? Have you settled at your formal education or are you working towards your 10,000 hours to make a difference To become an expert. To change people’s lives.
What will be your next step? What is your plan? What is your vision? What will you do on your path of self education in order to be the best that you can be?
Go Do Great Things!
