Adversity. Get Back Up One More Time!

Video Transcription Below.

Welcome back to Newman Newwoman Newweek.  I’m Ben Newman, and I am fired up to be with you today to talk about getting knocked down.  What do you do when you get knocked down?  You see, what I’ve learned in life is that your success is going to be measured in your ability to get back up one more time than you’ve been knocked down.

You know what?  I’m sure there’s many of you that watch these videos, you see pictures on Facebook, you see me on the field celebrating with the New England Patriots.  I was the first person in the front row, when they passed the Lombardi trophy down, I could have kissed the Lombardi trophy.  Probably wouldn’t have been appropriate, but I could have kissed it.

People see that.  You see success.  You see me having the opportunity to speak all over the world.

Now, I don’t say this to impress you.  I say it to impress upon the point.  Guess what?  I get knocked down, and I get hit hard in life.  We try marketing strategies.  We try all kinds of things that I get energy, I get fired up.  I say, “Is it going to work?  Is this going to be the next big breakthrough?”  And then I get smacked around a little bit, like Muhammad Ali style.

And you know what the key is?  Get back up one more time than you’ve been knocked down.  Focus on failing forward.  The more you fail forward, the more you learn, the more you improve, the more sometimes you have to have conversations with friends that you just let out that energy.  And you know what?  It may not feel good.  You might be struggling.

But sometimes, don’t keep it in; let it out.  I’ve had that happen with dear friends, people that I love.  It doesn’t feel good when you’re in the moment doing it, but I’ll tell you, sometimes they have to get it out, you have to get it out.  But the key is, if you can pick each other up off that mat of life, give each other a hug, let them know that you love each other, that’s what it’s all about.

So for you in your life, here is the key:  Just keep fighting.  Just keep moving.  Just keep attacking the process.  And no matter what great examples you see, and once again, I’m not trying to impress you.  But you see me doing significant things with unbelievable individuals, and stuff all over the world, I get knocked down all the time.  But I’m blessed to have people in my corner that care about me, people who love me.  An unbelievable team that helps us stay committed to the process.

Identify the process.  Identify your ideal state of focus.  And know, no matter what happens, no matter how many times you get knocked down, if you have a willingness to get back up, that will be the difference.  Until next week, for Newman Newwoman Newweek, keep attacking the process and go do great things.
